When Does A Diploid Chromosome Become Haploid In Meiosis

When does a diploid chromosome become haploid in meiosis

A diploid cell becomes haploid in anaphase I of meiosis. To understand why and how, lets talk about what meiosis is.

Meiosis is the type of cell division involved in the production of gametes or sex cells. These sex cells fuse with another sex cell from the opposite sex. Because of this, the number of chromosomes in each gamete should be half to match the parents number of chromosome. This is why meiosis reduces the number of chromosomes from diploid to haploid in the daughter cells it produces.

The reduction from diploid to haploid occurs in anaphase I where the chromosomes move to the opposite poles of the cell.
